Celebrity Dining: Encino’s Two-Year-Old Seafood and Cocktail Den Woodley Proper Closes Tonight

Celebrity Dining:

No more Woodley

Woodley Proper is closing tonight in Encino, ending a nearly two-year run for the place. In its stead will come a new, as yet unnamed project from the same Scratch restaurant group, but this one will be helmed by chef Sam Nuckols. He’s previously been chef de cuisine at Cockscomb, and has worked at Trois Mec, Petit Crenn, and elsewhere. Expect that restaurant to arrive sometime this fall.

Taco arrival

Trejo’s Tacos has taken over the former Loteria space at the Original Farmers Market off Fairfax. The actor-backed mini-chain opened for service over the weekend and will keep daily hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

More good news

Everson Royce Bar in the Arts District is now open for lunch, making that stretch of the city one of the busiest dining options anywhere, from Guerrilla to House of Machines to Firehose, Bestia, and beyond. And yes, they have the burger on the daytime menu.

Martha approved

Martha Stewart sure loved Margarita Manzke’s new Republique baking book. So much so, in fact, the celebrity food personality gushed about the brioche recipe on her personal Instagram page.

Tacos by the numbers

Whalebone Magazine dives deep into the life of Los Originales Tacos Arabes de Puebla and the Villegas family behind it, including the rumored history of how their secret recipe came to be — and just how much money it may have cost them to get it all started.

Matzoh party

There’s a new matzoh ball soup pop-up happening at Melody on Virgil tomorrow night. The $30 affair includes food from chef Daniel Benhaim, and there will be drinks and music happening as well. Plus, $5 from each ticket goes to support the Silverlake Jewish Community Center.
