“As I said on International Women’s Day, a girl who is educated becomes a woman who is influential. The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust wants to champion, fund and connect young leaders,” the new mom said to an audience of applause. She also went on to say, “When women miss out on careers, education or opportunities because of the system that they live in, we all suffer.”

In March, the duchess moderated an inspiring panel of women – from CAMFED’s Angie Murimirwa to Gurls Talk founder Adwoa Aboah and The Circle founder Annie Lennox – to talk about the importance of women’s empowerment.

“The Duchess joining this panel means that she is providing a global platform for young women leaders,” Angie told
HELLO! Canada of the opportunity to speak with Meghan. “My CAMA sisters do amazing work supporting girls in some of the most remote rural communities.”

Angie went on to speak candidly about her admiration for the former
Suits star, who welcomed her first child with husband Prince Harry on May 6. “Meghan inspires me deeply as an individual,” she said. “I have great respect for the fact that she is a longstanding supporter of women’s rights, women’s empowerment, equal opportunities and equity, and the fact that she is now using her new position as The Duchess of Sussex to continue this work and activism is phenomenal, and attests to the fact that this is a deep passion. I think that’s also why so many women are inspired by her.”

On Friday (May 10), the Fab Four –
Prince William, Duchess Kate, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan – announced they’re teaming up to help launch mental health initiative Shout, which helps young people in crisis. The Cambridge and Sussex houses officially split in October 2018, but there’s no denying they hold the same causes very close to their hearts and their outreach methods. Shout is a 24-hour service that connects people with volunteers who help them in their moment of need, and also assists them with finding long-term support for their mental health struggles.
