Celebrity Charity: ‘I’m striving to be the best parent’: Neighbours star Madeleine West ‘is spending a lot of time away from her six children’ to focus on charity work

She’s perhaps best known for playing Dione ‘Dee’ Bliss on Neighbours.
But Madeleine West is also a globetrotting charity ambassador for Project Soar, which helps to support orphans and vulnerable children.
Speaking to WHO magazine, the 38-year-old revealed that her dedication to charity work was keeping her away from her own six kids.

Madeleine has five daughters (Phoenix, 13, Xascha, nine, Xanthe, seven, and twins Xalia and Margeau, four) and one son (Hendrix, 11) from her relationship with celebrity chef Shannon Bennett.
The soap actress split with Shannon in 2018 after 13 years together.
She told WHO magazine that she hopes her children understand why she has been spending so much time away from them recently.

‘I hope my kids acknowledge that in my imperfectly perfect way, I’m striving to be the best parent that I can be for them,’ she said.
Madeleine recently visited Morocco with her eldest daughter Phoenix, where they saw girls as young as 13 being married off to much older men.
‘It really hit home, seeing my daughter – who in so many ways is still such a child – and there are girls her age and younger who are entering marriage,’ she said.

‘There is no notion they could extend their education beyond age 13, so Project Soar’s premise is purely to offer a course to empowerment through education.’
Madeleine deferred her law degree at Deakin University in 1999 to focus on acting but is now considering going back to complete it.
She wants to combine her passion for charity with her degree and focus on human rights law, in addition to continuing her work with Project Soar.
