He trained relentlessly for 12 weeks for a relay charity swim across the English Channel on Sink Or Swim.

And James Argent vowed to make the ‘biggest comeback of 2020’ after doing his first swim since the ‘epic challenge’ in Chigwell on Tuesday.

The former TOWIE star, 31, who said he feared he would die after his weight crept up to 24 stone, is on a mission to get fit after he was advised to lose 10 stone and 17 inches off his waist on This Morning.

Motivated: James Argent vowed to make the ‘biggest comeback of 2020’ and posted this Instagram picture on Monday as he headed back to the swimming pool to lose weight

Wearing nothing but a swim cap, towel, slippers and goggles, Arg looked delighted to be back in the water.

He wrote: ‘I’m going to have the biggest comeback of 2020!!! After a few years of absence I’m now officially a member of @davidlloydchigwellofficial.

‘My 1st swim since attempting the epic challenge of the #EnglishChannel Its good to be back!’

Getting back on track: Arg, who is known for his yo-yoing weight (pictured 2017), needs to lose ten stone, according to doctors

Determined: The former TOWIE star, 31, who said he feared he would die after his weight crept up to 24 stone, is on a mission to get fit after after he was advised to lose 10 stone

A slew of Arg’s celebrity pals rushed to praise him on his efforts. Vicky Pattison wrote: ‘GO ON SON’ while Gabby Allen shared a slew of clapping emojis.

Carol Wright commented: I’m happy to say I helped you here @real_arg and I have faith in you this time don’t let me down I hope my sense got in to your head, prove it now make it happen. X’

Back in May, the reality star was advised to lose 10 stone and 17 inches off his waist after admitting he is ‘on death row’ after gaining weight.

And last month, James told The Sun: ‘I’ve had check-ups. My heart’s OK, I have no signs of diabetes and my cholesterol is not too high.

‘But I was weighed and I was the biggest I’d ever been — around 24 stone. I could become ill or die, the swim is an opportunity to sort my life out.”

Stronger together: Arg’s Sink or Swim co-star Wes Nelson helped motivate him during the challenge

‘I need to lose about eight stone or more. I’ve got a long way to go even after I swim the Channel. But it’s just a perfect way to kick-start my healthy weight loss.’

Arg admitted he gets ‘a bit of stick on social media’ regarding his size, adding: ‘you try to be thick-skinned but it does affect you’.

The TOWIE original has made no secret with his weight struggles and yo-yo dieting over the years and recently wrote on Instagram: ‘When I was a child there was nothing I loved more then getting in the sea or the swimming pool but as I got older I completely lost my confidence.

‘I’ve been up & down in weight since my teens, At the start of this epic challenge I was the heaviest & unfittest I’ve ever been. I hadn’t done a bit of exercise for months & I really struggled at the beginning.

‘I’ve managed to stick at it & turn it around through #hardwork #dedication #commitment.’

The way he was: While training for sink or swim, the TV personality opened up on how the challenge has helped him to grow in confidence and overhaul his fitness
