Back in May, the reality star was advised to lose 10 stone and 17 inches off his waist after admitting he is ‘on death row’ after gaining weight.
And last month, James told The Sun: ‘I’ve had check-ups. My heart’s OK, I have no signs of diabetes and my cholesterol is not too high.
‘But I was weighed and I was the biggest I’d ever been — around 24 stone. I could become ill or die, the swim is an opportunity to sort my life out.”
Stronger together: Arg’s Sink or Swim co-star Wes Nelson helped motivate him during the challenge
‘I need to lose about eight stone or more. I’ve got a long way to go even after I swim the Channel. But it’s just a perfect way to kick-start my healthy weight loss.’
Arg admitted he gets ‘a bit of stick on social media’ regarding his size, adding: ‘you try to be thick-skinned but it does affect you’.
The TOWIE original has made no secret with his weight struggles and yo-yo dieting over the years and recently wrote on Instagram: ‘When I was a child there was nothing I loved more then getting in the sea or the swimming pool but as I got older I completely lost my confidence.
‘I’ve been up & down in weight since my teens, At the start of this epic challenge I was the heaviest & unfittest I’ve ever been. I hadn’t done a bit of exercise for months & I really struggled at the beginning.
‘I’ve managed to stick at it & turn it around through #hardwork #dedication #commitment.’
