Gina Rodriguez has found herself in a racial scandal after a video posted to her Instagram Stories saw her quoting the N-word.
The clip showed Rodriguez singing The Fugees’ song Ready or Not as she got her hair done.
“I can do what you do, believe me. Fronting [N-word] give me heebie-jeebies,” she rapped before bursting into laughter.
The video was soon deleted, but many internet users managed to get hold of it before she could take it down.
Social media users criticized the actress for using the racial slur, prompting the Jane the Virgin star to post a second video to address the controversy.
“I just wanted to reach out and apologize,” Rodriguez said in the clip. She conveyed her remorse to fans and those who were offended by the lyric, before expressing her love for The Fugees and Lauryn Hill.
However, many thought her apology wasn’t sincere enough, which led to her posting a follow-up apology a few hours later. In a lengthy message, she wrote, “In song and in real life, the words that I spoke should not have been spoken.”
She said she understood that the word she had repeated carried a “legacy of hurt and pain,” and that she needed to do some serious learning and growing up. “I’m so deeply sorry for the pain I have caused,” she concluded her message.
doesn’t matter if it’s a song, if you aren’t black then you cannot say the n word! cancel culture doesn’t have the effect it should and gina rodriguez won’t receive any repercussions for her constant anti blackness 🙄 pic.twitter.com/vv8fSbO2br

Gina Rodriguez has proven herself to be anti-Black on so many occasions. You could tell that she is use to saying the n-word just by the way the word rolled off her tongue. Her apology was bullshit too. Trash af.
