Celebrity Charity: After being released from Kronoberg prison following a highly publicised trial, the rapper is using fashion to help ‘give back’ to its inmates

When A$AP Rocky was arrested in Sweden on assault charges earlier this summer, the incident unfolded into an extremely public trial. In a series of unprecedented events, the rapper’s detainment became a matter of international diplomacy, resulting in the involvement of reality TV star turned American President, Donald Trump, who called up “the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden” to see what he could do about getting Rocky out.

Now, following his release from prison in August, the rapper has revealed that he has designed uniforms for the institution in which he was detained. Speaking to Forbes at an event in LA, he explained: “When I was going through my whole situation, the whole time I used to look on television and see Swedish fans showing me so much love and I want to give it back.”

According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the garments are made up of a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a track top with the word ‘PROMENVD’ written across its front and a large ‘X’ printed on the back. Although it is unclear what the word means, images of the uniform were revealed in the paper by the head of Kronoberg prison, who claimed that Rocky’s lawyer had sent them to him.

Later, when speaking to TMZ, the rapper also claimed a cut of proceeds from his upcoming Stockholm gig are set to be donated to Swedish charity FARR, which works to support refugees and immigrants throughout the country. “(When I was in Sweden) I met so many people like myself, and all of those immigrants didn’t really have the kind of support that they needed and me being a celebrity, I had worldwide coverage,” he explained. “We had the American embassy, and these people come from countries where they don’t have help and Sweden take in immigrants and shit like that. So I just felt like I wanted to give back.”
