—Chef Fabio Viviani closed his Moorpark restaurant Cafe Firenze last month after 11 years.
—Highland Park’s Maximiliano closed on December 31, a year shy of a decade. Chef Andre Guerrero is off to semi-retirement.
—Doma Kitchen settled into Marina del Rey in 2017 after shuffling locations throughout the South Bay. It’s now permanently closed.
—Echo Park’s Pollen closed over the Christmas holidays.
—Chef Roy Choi shuttered his nine-year-old Westside staple A-Frame.
—Ago, the 21-year-old celebrity haunt near the corner of La Cienega and Melrose closed in mid-December. Ownership lost the lease, but the landlord plans to revamp the interior and introduce its own unnamed Italian restaurant in summer 2020.
—Chef Adam Sobel’s seafood spot Osteria Cal Mare closed in December, which turned out to be the beginning of Michael Mina’s restaurants full departure from the Beverly Center.
—As one of last year’s biggest stories, Tartine closed its public restaurants and marketplace at the Manufactory inside Downtown’s Row development. The massive project didn’t last a year, which included the losses of Alameda Supper Club and chef Chris Bianco’s Tartine Bianco. Though Bianco plans to open his wood-fired Pizzeria Bianco in the former Tartine Bianco space, while the Alameda Supper Club will reopen as an Italian trattoria sometime in 2020.
—Jody Maroni’s Sausage Kingdom, Venice Boardwalk’s 40-year-old stand, closed in early December.
—Sherman Oaks’ Corky’s and adjacent Cork Lounge closed permanently on December 15. The 61-year-old diner and lounge was famous for its old-school menu, Googie architecture, and as a popular filming location.
—In a shocking double closure, Middle Eastern restaurant Jaffa closed both locations in Los Angeles. The Palms location closed the week of December 4, then its West Third Street location only two weeks later.
