Keep in mind that the annual fee for The Platinum Card® from American Express is waived for the first year. However, the value of the signing bonus and annual credits of $400,000 exceeds the annual fee for the first year.

Cardholders can add up to three cardholders to increase these benefits by $175 per year. Each additional card holder is $175 per year per person.
The signup bonus is great, but you only get it once. American Express has a “once in a lifetime” bonus policy, so make sure the bonus is high enough to make your application worth it.
What makes cardholders believe they can improve the benefits you get every year. These are the common benefits that most American Express Platinum cardholders enjoy on a regular basis:
The Top 5 Reasons To Get The Amex Platinum Card
Cardholders receive $200 in airline credits each calendar year from the American Express Platinum Card. These credits can be used for baggage fees, seat service, currency exchange and mobile phone payments to name a few. Tickets are not eligible for these flight credits. Gift vouchers are also not included. However, some people report success in getting a loan for their purchase.
To use flight credits, you must select your preferred airline from the list:
Once you select a year, you cannot change it. However, after January 1, you can stay the course or choose another flight.

Unfortunately, the $200 Uber credits are not awarded all at once. Instead, cardholders receive $15 in Uber credits each month and another $20 in December. If you’re like most people and don’t use Uber every month, these credits also count toward Uber Eats orders.
With Amex Platinum, you also get an upgrade to Uber VIP status without meeting minimum driving requirements. This ensures that you meet the best drivers whenever possible.
American Express has a network of lounges exclusively for American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders. There are nine Centurion Lounge locations:
How To Maximize Your American Express Platinum Card Benefits
There have been reports of the Centurion lounge restricting access during busy times of the day or year. And American Express recently restricted entry to the cardholder and two guests.
Check out this Instagram post I’m amazed at how big the new @dfwairport @americanexpress #CenturionLounge is. It is spacious with lots of comfortable seats. It’s still the same delicious free food and drink starter. A post shared by Lee Huffman (@) on Nov 12, 2018 at 3:24pm PST
This restricted entry policy is completely useless for families like mine, traveling with a mother, father and two children. It would force us to pay the pass day (if there is one on that day) or pay $175 for the other parent to become a cardholder.

American Express Platinum Travel Is Exasperating
Travelers often know that waiting in line is not a good use of their time. This is why Global Entry or TSA PreCheck is the key to getting through airport security and customs at airports.
With Amex Platinum, get up to $400 cash back every four years for enrolling in TSA PreCheck Global Entry. Other border security programs such as NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST are not included. Other cardholders can also get this payment option.
While these popular benefits are cool, there are many hidden American Express Platinum card benefits that cardholders may not know about or forget to use. If you’re thinking of canceling your card when the next annual fee is due, these 17 hidden benefits may convince you to keep the card for another year.
Valuing The Benefits Of The Amex Platinum Charge Card
With the American Express Platinum Card, the Centurion Lounge and Priority Pass aren’t the only lounge benefits you can get. Amex Platinum cardholders have access to more than 1,100 airports in 120 countries.
When I lived in California, one of my favorite houses to visit was not in the airport. It was even inside a mall. The Access Suite Lounge at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa is small, but they offer free drinks and snacks. In the morning I went golfing with my friends and I played for them.
And then I found the Escape Lounge at the Reno airport on my way back from snowboarding with my son. They had great food, free drinks and a nice place to rest before the flight.
Is The Amex Platinum Worth The Annual Fee?
With most other premium credit cards, Globel Check-in or TSA PreCheck rebates are reserved for the original cardholder only. This is not the case with the American Express Platinum card.
With the Amex Platinum Card, each authorized cardholder also receives up to $100 in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fees. This benefit can be used once every four years. Simply pay the application fee to the authorized user’s credit card and the refund will be automatic.
