Full Coverage Foundation Dry Skin – [dropcap]F[/dropcap]foundations and foundations and dry skin don’t always go together, do they? I think most are meant for oily skin, but girls with dry skin have things they want to cover up outside too! I thought I would only wear tinted moisturizers or heavy foundations, but I was able to get full coverage with a few tricks…

If you want that flawless coverage but your skin has texture, the struggle is REAL. It’s so easy to go from flawless to cake-faced! With this practice, I am able to keep dry areas at bay while still getting the airbrushed look I want.

When it comes to applying multi-colored foundation, you really need to do some work before makeup time. You might think it starts with what you put on your skin, but it actually starts with what you take off. I’m always shocked at how many people tell me they don’t cleanse their skin in the morning. Whether you think you do or not, we sweat when we sleep and shed skin cells. The last thing you want is dirt trapped under your makeup (ick). I start my day with a gentle cleanser like It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser* – a pea-sized amount will do the trick.

The next step is to raise your water to a higher level. This is not the time to jump out of your skin, so find the gold here. I start with a serum that penetrates the skin. Right now I’m loving the Biotherm Skin Oxygen Strengthening Concentrate* – it feels silky smooth and I’ll definitely be repurchasing when I’m out (which is pretty soon!).

After the serum, I apply a hydrating eye cream that’s not too greasy because I don’t want my mask to clump and slide. I’ve always loved Clarins Multi-Active Eye*, which has a super-fat formula that soothes puffiness and hydrates with a light gel-cream formula. I do this before my stimulator so it has time to soften and do its job.

Speaking of moisturizers, one of my tried and true favorites for day or night is Origins Make a Difference + Ultra Rich. It comes in different levels of hydration but I go for the richest one as my skin is dry and dehydrated. This product does not disappoint and is always my go to for smooth, plump and hydrated skin.

So now that you’ve got your skin care under control, it’s time to get started on skin care. I know primers are part of the marmite brand, but I really believe in them. If you have perfectly normal skin (What is ‘normal’ anyway!?) then good for you. Otherwise, primer can be your best friend. They balance oil, increase water, create a solid base for adhesion or smooth pores. My two current favorites are both Smashbox, but I use them for different things. Photo Finish Primer Water is very light but leaves a little residue to stick to the skin. This is sometimes necessary if you use a heavy cream underneath. Another favorite of mine is the Primerizer; A primer and moisturizer in one, this gives extra smoothness to the skin of hard foundations.

This is where the combination comes in. Once you’ve chosen your foundation and concealer (most recently mine have been Huda Beauty Faux Filter, Maybelline SuperStay, and Tarte Shape Tape*), the key is to start small and build. You’ve probably seen some famous YouTubers who apply their makeup like they’re putting a hole in a wall. I promise you, this will not work for you in everyday life. Instead of spraying it all over your face, start applying your foundation in small sections; I like to do the cheeks first, but you want to start where you feel you need the most coverage. Use the tool of your choice (I’m a brush girl and I prefer a flat kabuki like this one for thicker formulas) and here’s a little trick – if you find your foundation isn’t spreading as you’d like, add a drop oil to it and blow it out. When I say “drip,” I mean it—anything else can break down your foundation faster than expected and contaminate the formula. I love MV Organics Skincare Daily Soother* – it smells divine and is perfect for dry, flaky skin!

Okay here’s my best tip for getting full coverage that lasts all day on dry skin: Take your time. Once you have it all together, wait a few minutes. Take time to get a cup of tea, get dressed, whatever. Then go back to your face and use your fingers or a dense brush (like this one) to remove any clumped areas. Allowing it time to set before setting will give it a leathery look.

What The Foundation

Then set it and move on. I have dry skin but never skip a touch of powder because it’s what sticks my foundation to the skin and keeps it there and not on everything else. I know powder can be scary if you don’t want matte skin. The trick is to choose something neutral (one of my all-time favorites is MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders is another good option) and use a light hand. Dust under the eyes to set your concealer (with a small brush like this one). Make your smile lines and around the nose and eyebrows. I always apply a little under the cheekbones where I bronze and contour so the color doesn’t run or stick. Use a soft brush like this so you don’t overdo it and don’t even think about baking. This is a step I never skip, but it probably makes the biggest difference in the look and longevity of my foundation!

I understand this may seem like a lot, but the whole process takes me minutes. There are many days where I hit the floor and walk away, but sometimes you just need more! Until I found these tips and tricks, I always felt like I was wearing heavy makeup, but now I don’t and I’m told that I have beautiful skin (re: not beautiful

I used to be a fan of full coverage foundation, but as the years go by, I sometimes think that the combination of full coverage and dry skin can be too old. Also my taste has changed and I usually prefer a dewy/shiny look on my fair to medium skin. Having said that, foundations have also come a long way and full coverage doesn’t have to equal flat, mask-like foundations and I have three that I would recommend I reach for when I’m having a bad skin day. or for a party/event where I want my foundation to last for hours without the need for contact.

The 18 Best Foundations For Dry Skin 2023

First up is Natasha Denona Foundation X. This foundation is very lightweight – it doesn’t feel like there’s anything on the skin, yet it packs a punch in terms of coverage while giving a radiant finish – not dewy, not shiny – if I had to categorize it, I would say half-baked. It doesn’t settle into fine lines or accentuate pores, it doesn’t clog pores or break down after a few hours. It is an absolute winner in my eyes. I think it’s best to apply with a wet beauty blender – I’ve used brushes and they work well but the beauty blender really makes sure it gets into the skin. Lasts a long time too – I’d say the longest I wore it was about 9 hours and it still looked like new. I was very disappointed when Beauty Bay stopped stocking Natasha Denona products, so on this side of the Atlantic the only option is to order from Sephora or Beautylish. If you order from Sephora, you can use MyMallBox, which is my favorite.

Next up is the Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation, which is much thicker and creamier in texture than the Natasha Denona foundation, so a denser brush is needed to blend this into the skin. I’ve tried it with a beautyblender but that doesn’t work either, but I always finish with my beautyblender. This will definitely be “flawless” in your name – any blemishes, dull spots, redness, dark circles, etc.
