Motorcycle For Sale In Manila – Despite the economic downturn and industry challenges that motorcycle manufacturers faced last year, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association Inc. (MDPPA) still managed annual sales growth of 9% in 2022, with total unit sales of 1,564,827.
MDPPA is an organization of the so-called “Big 4” motorcycle brands in the country, namely Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.

Of MDPPA’s total sales last year, 58% were automatic transmission (AT) motorcycles, with 904,343 units sold. More commonly known as scooters, these motorcycles initially became popular with first-time motorcycle buyers due to their ease of use. But recently it has been in high demand in the delivery service industry.

Next with 21% are the motorcycles from the Business Unit (BU), with 334,671 units sold. As the name suggests, the motorcycle models in this segment are traditionally intended to be used for commercial purposes, as most of these units are converted into tricycles for ferry passengers.
Motorcycles (MP) accounted for 16% of last year’s sales, with 253,783 units. With the exception of some sport-oriented models, the MP or Commuter Underbone is the most affordable type of motorcycle in the domestic market. Sales of MPs declined in previous years before demand gradually declined. While this shows the capacity and willingness of motorcycle buyers to spend more on technical features and ease of use, the MP remains the most viable option in the price-sensitive commuter market segment.
On the other hand, standard (ST) motorcycle models sold a conservative 57,941 units consistently. STs are considered a step up from entry-level commuter bikes and an entry point into the Big Bike (BB) segment. BBs are high displacement motorcycles (400cc and up) aimed at the recreational rider market. Last year, 12,662 BB units were sold, along with 1,427 off-road vehicles for leisure activities (other).

Just so you know, these figures only represent the reported sales of the above four brands. The number of other brands and distributors is not included in this count, so theoretically the number of motorcycles sold last year is higher than the figures from the MDPPA.
After reaching the one million unit sales milestone in 2016, MDPPA underwent a growth spurt and recorded annual sales of 1.3 million, 1.6 million and 1.7 million units in 2017, 2018 and 2019 respectively.
As the global pandemic hit, MDPPA experienced -29.2% growth in 2020, with unit sales falling to 1.2 million. However, the organization struggled and bounced back with 19% growth in 2021, achieving an incredible 1,435,677 unit sales.

Despite my monosyllabic last name, I’m not a fan of numbers, but these always get me excited every year. MDPPA is not yet inclined to provide a sales forecast for 2023, but at the current rate, will we see double digit growth this year?
