You’ll need a plan of attack for this museum, so below are the pros and cons of five ways to visit Florence’s Uffizi Gallery. (Since some of these involve buying individual entrance tickets, I’ve outlined five ways to get Uffizi tickets.)
Let me emphasize that there is no reason to stand in a three-hour ticket queue at the Uffizi! Instead, consider visiting the Uffizi Gallery with one of the following options:
Hire a private guide to visit the museum. I will say right off the bat that if your budget allows, I recommend it. There are many excellent private guides such as Freya’s Florence.

Many companies offer guided group tours at different prices and lengths (usually 90 minutes, 2 hours, or 3 hours), and when you visit Florence’s Uffizi Gallery, you’ll see groups throughout the museum. These tours must be booked in advance, depart at a predetermined time, and groups vary in size. A group tour can be great if the group is small (less than about 12 people, such as Context Travel or tours offered by Walks of Italy). Big trips can make you feel like you’re being herded around like cattle.
Before you leave home, download the Uffizi audio tour to your phone or other smart device, then order your individual passes using one of the five methods below. Benefits:
When you arrive at the museum, you can rent an official Uffizi audio guide if you have ID.

For pre-printed materials, you can buy a book or find a list of the most famous works of the Uffizi online and print the information to take with you. If you arrive in Florence without Uffizi tickets and there is a long queue at the Uffizi, the queues at other Florence Musei ticket offices will be shorter. These ticket offices operate according to the opening hours of each individual museum.
Do not rely on this approach, as you risk finding that there are no tickets available for the date or time you wish to go, or that there are not enough tickets for the party. If the alternative is a long line at the Uffizi, it’s worth checking out one of these options first.
