A video came my way on Facebook the other day to download an easy way to cook corn. Like our favorite way to roast corn, you don’t throw the corn out first, but leave it in the shell.
After a few minutes on high, you remove the corn from the microwave, cut from the bottom and clean the strip of husk and silk. Perfectly cooked corn with no mess!
Steamed Corn On The Cob Recipe
This is probably not the most efficient way to cook corn if you are cooking more than a few ears. In that case it is faster and easier to steam or boil.
But because I often cook for one, and I have the patience of a hummingbird, I like the idea of quickly cooking one ear in the microwave. See here how.
I also like to cook corn on the cob. When cooked this way, the corn evaporates in its own juices and absorbs the flavor of the husk, resulting in a wonderful corn flavor. If your corn is fresh, you don’t need butter. (But don’t let me stop you!)

The instructions are for one vein. If you want to microwave more than one ear, increase the cooking time by up to 2 minutes for each additional ear, depending on your microwave power and the size of the ear of corn. You may have to experiment to find the right time to microwave.

While roasted summer sweet corn is delicious, what happens when you don’t have time or access to a grill? Fortunately, using the microwave is a quick and easy way to cook corn in minutes. While grilled corn adds a smoky flavor, microwaving is a great way to get soft, perfectly cooked corn without the risk of overcooking.
Microwave Corn On The Cob
Sweet corn is at its peak in late summer. In most states, you can find it at roadside farms or farmers markets, but grocery stores often carry local corn when it’s in season. It makes a perfect side dish for burgers or anything else you want to throw on the grill. You can also microwave corn and cut off the kernels to add to salads, soups and more.
Leave the husk on the corn first to steam the kernels, keeping them juicy and fresh. After a few minutes in the microwave, remove or cut off the bottom of the head, then remove the skin. Please note, sweet corn comes in white and yellow varieties, and when cooked, the kernels will be a darker and stronger color. Season with dry spices, lather in herb-infused butter, or top with a sticky-sweet glaze to take it to the next level—see the recipe below for fun flavor variations.
We don’t recommend this technique for serving a large crowd, but you can feed your family by microwaving 4 ears of wheat in less than 10 minutes. To serve more than one person, simply add 2 minutes of cooking time for each additional ear of corn:

There really aren’t many recipes here. Just grab some corns and make sure you have access to a microwave, and you’re good to go!
My microwave oven is 1.58kW and 4 ears of wheat were perfectly cooked in 10 minutes. You can adjust the cooking time based on the wattage of your microwave.

If you cook less corn, you will want to cook less. 1 vein boils for about 5 minutes, 2 veins boil for about 7 minutes, and 3 or 4 veins boil for about 10 minutes.
Use pot holders to remove the corn from the microwave. Leave for about 3 minutes to cool slightly before shaking out.
Drink corn. The easiest way to do this after microwaving is to cut the bottom, and the shells and silk should come off easily.
Steamed Corn On The Cob
Not! The corn husk acts as a natural barrier to keep the corn clean. There is no need to wash the corn after shaking it out.
However, sometimes you will find worms or other critters in your corn. Just cut that part out!
I recommend cooking up to 4 ears of wheat at a time in the microwave. If you need to cook more than that, I recommend cooking in batches.
