The deeper the ocean, the more mysterious it is. And beneath its waters lurk some strange, sometimes terrifying and ultimately fascinating creatures.
Weird Creatures Found In The Sea
Over the past few months, several flamboyant fish have washed ashore on American beaches, piqued the curiosity of locals and made a star turn on social media.
Strange Creature Transforms Itself Deep In Ocean
The rare fish was spotted washed up on a California beach on May 8, and social media users were quick to point out that the species is best known for its role in the 2003 Pixar classic.
Females stand up to 24 inches tall, while males measure much shorter. This unique fish was found in Newport Beach and is housed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. It is expected to end up as part of an exhibit at the zoo.
Wildlife officials in Cape Coral, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico, were confused about the origin of the fish because the species they had originally considered was excluded. At first, officials believed it was an Arapaima, a large Amazonian river fish.
Strange Creatures Of The Ocean Deep
In February, local NBC2 journalists went to help with the investigation and see if they could identify the fish, but they had no luck. If anyone sees another mysterious fish, notify local authorities, their report concludes.
After USA Today reported in February that it was the first of its kind to be spotted in the Northern Hemisphere, the international community of marine biology debated what species this big fellow actually was.
When a 7-foot fish washed ashore in California, scientists thought it was an oceanic sunfish. However, size is more important no matter how you measure it.

Mr Fedortsov, who studied marine science at the university in Murmansk, spent much of his time in the Barents Sea, which flows into the Arctic Ocean.

“All types of fish are beautiful in their own way. I can’t say they are ‘horrible’ or ‘ugly’. “People are very interested in unusual marine life,” he says.
“Readers are left with the impression that with every trawl we bring in exceptional fish specimens,” added the fisherman. “Actually, that’s far from the case. It’s a rare thing.
“On the other hand, even a famous fish can be photographed to look like a ‘monster’.”
