What To Do In Osaka, Japan
With its multitude of parades, shows, speed rides and 4D experiences, USJ draws huge crowds every day of the year, which can often result in an incredible wait. You can track queue times for each attraction through the USJ app, which also provides up-to-date information on show times, temporary attraction closures and park hours.
The app will come in handy especially on busy days, as you can use it to register park tickets and get a digital time pass for certain attractions. The app will give you a deadline to show up at a certain attraction to shorten your wait time. Please note that the number of limited time tickets you can get is limited.
The park is divided into ten areas: Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Minion Park, Universal Wonderland, Hollywood, New York, San Francisco, Jurassic Park, Amity Village and WaterWorld. You can check out the shops, restaurants and attractions for each of these sections here.
Saka Kōbe Metropolitan Area
Exploring different areas of the park is very easy. However, accessing Wizarding World or the new Super Nintendo World can be inconvenient on busy days as they have limited capacity. To guarantee access to all areas, you can purchase a Universal Express Pass online or on the day of your visit (more on this below).
Alternatively, you can get a free timed ticket through the USJ app or at one of the park’s timed ticket booths. This will give you a certain amount of time to access Wizarding World or Super Nintendo World. Availability is limited, so try to get one early in the day. Also, be sure to keep your park ticket as you will need it to get your timed entry pass.
The world’s first Super Nintendo World is easily USJ’s most sought-after attraction. The section is home to toys like Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge and Yoshi’s Adventure, but with attention to detail and cleverly designed interactive elements, Super Nintendo World is an attraction in itself.
Introduction To Osaka Tour
Along with Nintendo themed shops and restaurants, the area also offers a number of side missions and mini-games to enjoy. Annoyingly, this requires another cost in the form of a ¥3,800 Super Nintendo World wristband sold at kiosks around the area. But there is more to this toy than meets the eye.
The wristband can be synced to your smartphone via the USJ app, which you can use to track your score in mini-games and see your ranking among other players. The main way to earn points is to win ‘keys’ for the three area mini-games. After completing all three challenges, you will be able to enter the navigator’s castle for a boss fight.
Take a look at your collection of postage stamps in the app and you’ll see that there are dozens of other ways to score points besides the “key” games. These include smashing yellow crates for coins like Mario does in the video games, racing a Mario Kart, unlocking Bowser Jr’s toy chest, and finding 8-bit characters, among others. Every time you hit a yellow block or unlock a new achievement, you’ll see your points increase in your app.
Osaka Castle Park, Japan: Toyotomi’s Dream
You’ve read the books, watched the movies, and now you can explore the wizarding world in real life. Complete with an impressively detailed model of Hogwarts Castle, the Hogwarts Express and a range of shops to explore in Hogsmeade Village, this area at USJ will make you feel like you’ve stepped into the magical universe of Harry Potter.
While Tokyo is expecting an exciting release from Warner Bros. Next year’s Studio Tour Tokyo, the next facility will feature a different set of attractions, inspired by the one in London. This means that Wizarding World at USJ will continue to be exclusive to Osaka in 2023.
If you haven’t dressed in your house colors yet, you might want to buy a set of school clothes before heading to the castle, where adventures like Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey await. Edible treats on offer range from Bertie Bott’s Beans of All Flavors (try at your own risk) to frothy Butterbeer, while wands of all shapes and sizes can be found at Ollivanders for wizards-in-training.

He wanted a castle inspired by the seat of his predecessor Oda Nobunaga, but larger in every way. He wanted the biggest castle in Japan.
The immensity of the place dawned on me only when I was already in the middle of it. Coming from Osakajokoen Station on the JR Loop Line, I had to walk several hundred meters to finally reach the main tower. The land covers an area of 60,000 square meters, and is home to 13 buildings, including several gates and towers, all of which have been declared “Important Cultural Properties” by the Japanese government. It extends to a total of more than 2 square kilometers.

Built on two raised platforms, the castle is, according to my friend Wikipedia, “supported by steep rock walls carved with a technique called burlap, each facing a moat.” Short bridges also bridge the moats, connecting the inner and outer parts of the site. Plum and peach orchards also line the park’s courtyards.
Although it was easy to walk to the main tower, I still found it very tiring. It was midday in summer when I was there and the sun was quite scary. Starting to hurt, the knees made the park look wider than it actually was. The good news is that there were not many tourists. The bad news: the beautiful cherry blossoms or autumn leaves were missing. The place was covered in all shades of green, so bright and so ordinary. Despite this, the monochromatic nature of the surroundings did not diminish the grandeur of the central castle at all.
The main tower of the castle rises majestically on a stone foundation in the center of the castle. Construction began in 1583 on the site of the Ikkō-ikki temple of Ishiyama Hongan-ji by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. he was
